Reviewing Different File Types

Presenters may upload a variety of file types for their presentations. As a reviewer, it’s helpful to understand how different file types behave within the review window, and what tools or steps may be needed to complete your review.

  • PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx)
PowerPoint files are the most common and are fully supported in the review interface. You can preview the slides, navigate through them, and complete your review entirely within Gather Online.

  • Keynote (.key)
Keynote files, created using Apple’s Keynote presentation software, are not compatible with the online review interface. If a presenter uploads a Keynote file, you will see the message:
"The submission file type is not compatible with on-line reviewing."
To complete your review, click the Download button to save the file to your device. You’ll need to open it using Apple’s Keynote application — typically on a Mac. Once you’ve reviewed the file locally, return to the Gather Online review window to submit your assessment.

  • PDF (.pdf)
PDF presentations can be reviewed directly in Gather Online. The viewing experience may vary slightly depending on the web browser you are using, but you will still be able to scroll through and assess the slides effectively.
